Research
Research is a crucial part of my final major project. Through researching the different factors and features of my music video I can create a better understanding of my music video and make it more detailed. If I did not carry out thorough research the effect on the audience from my music video will not be near the same.
Starting off I can compose a plan of what I will need to do and how much time I will have to do so. These plans explain what tasks I will be doing to generate research into what I will be adding into my music video.

Primary Research: Survey
One of my primary research techniques that I wanted to conduct was a survey. A survey can help you to understand the needs and opinions of a variety of people. For my survey, I needed to gain an idea of what percentage of people shared the same views. For example I started off by asking what age they were so that I could gain an idea of target audience and ageist opinions.
I sent my survey out to my friends, family, class and put it on social media such as Facebook. I gained 42 responses and a large variety of feedback. By looking at this feedback I can analyse the results and see if I can widen my target audience range by incorporating more of what they would want to see politically, into my music video.

The first question I asked was "What is your age?". This is useful to know as it allows me to establish if the answers could be bias due to majority of responses being from a particular age demographic. The largest age demographic was 16-18 year olds, this was followed up by the 51+ age group. This means I have hit the two main target age category's I wanted my music video to be aimed at.

My survey results are mainly from women. This may not be the best represented as according to a recent study by ITV, three quarters of woman do not feel confident sharing their political opinions. This means that the responses may not be as accurate.

When asked if they voted in the last election, 59.5% said that they were too young to vote whilst the rest of the votes were very varied. 23.8 percent said they did vote and 16.7% said they did not. This is interesting as this could be related to a lack of knowledge and education or maybe what options their are running in parliment.

76.2% said that they did not feel like the government has the publics best interest at heart and that they do not run the country fairly. This can help my research as I can discuss through interviews and focus groups past events this would relate to and how that could be changed.

This is the fluent feedback I have received for what do people like about the conservative party. There were only a few responses that did not follow this general feedback.

I would like to look into this further to go into details of why people feel this way towards the conservatives.

In comparison to what people like about the conservatives, people mainly commented the same things for dislikes saying they dislike "everything" about them. Some of the more helpful comments explain their views cater more towards older and richer people and do not support people in the lower classes.

When being asked if people have always voted for the same party's, most people answered that they were are too young to vote however if we look at the results from yes and no, more people said they have not voted for the same party. This is a good figure as it shows that over the years opinions have been changed. I can further look into this in my research.

By asking open ended questions where results can be written in, I am able to find out what peoples actual thoughts and opinions are. Most of my answers for what Labour features do you miss was more towards the financial side of things.

I was conscious that the results I gained had a high potential of swaying one way as I shared my survey on my social media (meaning the responses would be from people my age) however I did share it on Facebook to gain feedback from a older audience. In my question asking about if the government considers young peoples opinions, majority said that they do not think they do and equal amount of people said the government does and that they were unsure.

Again with this question, I did not want the results to be bias however majority of people agreed that people aged 35 and under will be effected most by the governments decisions. Although that was the largest percentage of feedback, more people agreed that 36-56 would be effected.

With many of the statements made by the conservative party show disrespect towards many communities for example the trans community, I wanted to ask my focus group if they believed that people feel safe living in the UK. 46.3% said yes, 36.6% said no and 17.1% said don't know.

I asked who people believed was the best prime minister was. The results were varied but the most votes were for Boris Johnson. With this in mind I could further look into how these prime ministers differed while running the country.

Majority of votes towards who my focus group would vote were for Keir Starmer and the labour party. Dispite the keen dislike towards Rishi Sunak and the conservative party, they were the next voted with 14.6%. I could look further into why this might be.
Having completed my survey I can further look into what factors and features the general public like and dislike towards the current government and how the media can effect this.
Existing product analysis
Looking at existing products and doing analysis can be helpful as I will gain understanding of how directors have added technicalities to impact their work and how I can do the same. Through looking at music videos and film scenes, I will take something from each that I would like to add into my music video, how this can effect the finished product and how it could impact my active audience.
Bitter Sweet Symphony - The Verve
Bitter Sweet Symphony follows The Verves front man Richard Ashcroft simply walking through a very bleak London street, ignoring everyone as he continues. Bitter Sweet Symphony is a performative music video as he lip-syncs to the song. Directed by Walter Stern in 1997, on first glace it seems to be a "one shot video" meaning it took only one take to film, however there are over 50 cuts in footage and editing (The Verve: Bitter Sweet Symphony (Music Video 1997) - IMDb). During the music video Richard is met by many different people that bump into him along the way. Linking this to the lyrics can relate to how the British public are constantly working, struggling to live and then they we die and nothing matters. This is shown in the lyrics "your a slave to money then you die".
One technique I like from this music video that I would like to add into my music video would be how the lighting and colour grading reflects on the atmospheric mood of the video and how pathetic fallacy also comes into play. The music video uses cool tones and darker lighting until the end when it seems to be a bit brighter. This paired with him bumping into people could represent the inner conflict and how this is being shown to the pubic. The darker colours and lighting such as shades of blue, purple, grey and black can suggest the mental place where Richard (the protagonist) is and how when people try to stop him from carrying on he simply doesn't care and continues. The use of lighting and colour grading paired with pathetic fallacy can effect the feelings provoked from the audience. For example, the weather itself is very bleak and grey, its not bright and sunny. This will also help with added effect to the mood as "bleak and grey" weather can create a more miserable environment, this changes towards the end where it gets brighter and suggests to the audience he is happier.
I would like to add this type of colour theory using lighting, colour grading and correction in my music video as it can suggest more to the audience as well as maintain the importance of my theme by suggesting how it is making the country miserable and how it relates to the mood of the country.
Love It If We Made It - The 1975
2019 Hit for the band The 1975, Love It If We Made It, discusses social injustice such as racism, discrimination and war. The music video shows mostly b roll footage composed of news reports, social media and charity sources. The footage is eye opening to the audience and I believe has a more active audience because the footage is more shocking.
When looking at the actual mise en scen of the music video, it is more basic as a large amount of it is pre existing footage. However lighting is used largely, there are sequences where what is shown is just shadows with a coloured background, there aren't any props or specific costuming and you could define Love It If We Made It as a concept music video.
In my music video, I would like to take the pre existing footage aspect as I think this is a good way of gaining an active audience. In Love It If We Made It this footage is shocking to the audience, in my music video I would like to use pre existing footage by only as a brief opening. I want to pair this with old TV sets to reflect on how we live in a society which is fast changing yet the country's political values are very stuck in the past. Inspiration for this would come from Deja Vu by Olivia Rodrigo. In this music video there is a frequent use of old TV sets with footage on.

Bad Blood - Taylor Swift
Bad Blood by Taylor Swift is said to represent the breakdown of trust and friendship in Taylors life. The music video features many different famous faces that are widely recognised by the public. This gives Bad Blood a wider target audience as there will be fans watching of not just Taylor Swift, but fans of the other cast members.
I like Bad Blood because of the wide range of characters, the fashion and outfit choices that feature, the transitions as well as the graphics and visual effects shown. I think with all of these features in use it makes the music video more interesting and eye catching to the audience.
This music video has a good representation of the specific shot types I want to use, for example:

This shot has been taken from the end sequence, showing the two sides of "the fight". As my music video will be a stand off "fight" between the older and younger generations, the use of wide shots to capture this emotion will be used often. Also using camera movements to reveal information is something I would use quite often. I think that constant static shots do not make music videos very interesting and can make them more boring.
The Parent Trap (1998)
The final technique I will use is cloning which I will take inspiration from The Parent Trap. The Parent Trap would be the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about doubling/ cloning. In The Parent Trap they had Lyndsay Lohan play both roles of Hallie and Annie so would film scenes twice with a stand in playing the opposite twin. I will need to work on editing using cloning as it is something I have never done before and when filming and creating wide shots like the one above (inspiration from Bad Blood - Taylor Swift) showing both sides and having it be the same cast I will need them to be opposite eachother.
Once again I can follow tutorials on YouTube to help me understand how to create these effects.
Primary Research: Action Research
After looking at my existing product analysis, I looked at a range of different features music videos and film use which I think I could incorporate well. I looked at three music videos and the film the parent trap, each of these represented a mise en scene aspects that could reflect on the mood, context and understanding of my music video.
One thing I tested was inspiration taken from the 1998 movie The Parent Trap. The Parent Trap used cloning and masking techniques to edit in Lindsay Lohan playing two different roles but in the same scene. These were often blocked with a body double to help Lindsay act with someone and also edit her face onto the body double in a few scenes. I wanted to test cloning as I want my cast to be the same on both sides and I will need to edit this as they cannot be in the same place at once. This shot takes inspiration from Bad Blood - Taylor Swift where the two sides come face to face to fight. I filmed two short shots where Zoe walked in frame, looked at herself on the other side and then walked out. I kept the camera and the lighting in the exact same position and didn't change a thing. I imagined a split down the middle and told her not to cross that as this would be where the two clips would be separate. This is how it turned out:
I liked how my clone action research turned out as I had never experimented with this before. In terms of editing it was very simple. I watched a YouTube video which explained how to clone in Premier Pro and then began editing. I put both clips into Premier Pro and cut the down to the length I wanted. I put one clip over the other and adjusted the placement of where I wanted them to have Zoe walk in. I added mask in effects and changed the opacity and was left with this result.
Cloning is defiantly something I will use as it seemed the easiest way to have the same person playing to roles in the same shot. If I was to do it again I would maybe have the two do something different instead of the same thing to show the possibilities as well as making it not simply look like it has been mirrored.
The next practical research I carried out was combining the pre existing footage from news articles and reports with old TV sets representing the past. This came from Love It If We Made It - The 1975 and Deja Vu - Olivia Rodrigo. The footage throughout Love It If We Made It is quite raw and can shock the audience, potentially provoking them to feel as if change is needed. I liked this idea as it can help me gage with an active audience who is open minded and prepared to change social and political constructs. Pairing it with the TV can add aesthetic value making it more visually pleasing to the audience to not just look at the old footage but it is represented in an old way. According to dream app , TVs can symbolise
"the desire for information, escape, or a need to be entertained. It may also represent a longing for connection with others or a desire to be part of a larger community". This is how it turned out:
I filmed the clip of Zoe using a camera, tripod, light and a microphone. We discussed what Zoe could state when talking - this will later be changed to add in pre existing footage. To keep it on theme with politics and have continuity of what the footage that will actually be used in the old footage, we had Zoe talk about how the government aim to have 16+ students do math studies until 18.
When editing I used the video above to help me as again I have never used green screens or edited using green screens before. I found a video on YouTube that had a old TV screen with the green on it. I downloaded this and then put that and the footage I had filmed into Premier Pro. I put the footage of Zoe above the TV footage the added "Ultra Key" onto the video of Zoe. I then changed the key colour to the same colour of green that the green screen is. This then made my footage appear in the TV screen. I had to adjust it as it was not perfectly fitting to the screen. This is one of the things I would change when I do it again as the video moves and my footage goes out of the screen.

This can be seen here. The edges are rough and will need to be changed as it is not the best quality and looks messy. I want my music video to be to the best quality I can make it and this will not be a good representation of that.
Towards the end of the clip it looks better due to the camera movements going forward and the is not as much excess border around the video but again this will need to be changed to look seamless.
Another thing I would change would be the TV video itself. Whilst it had the TV as the main subject of the footage which is what I wanted, I feel as though it will not fit with the colour scheme as there is heavy emphasise on purple tones. The colour purple can connotate with wealth, royalty, mystery and rarity (https://www.adobe.com/express/colors/purple#:~:text=Purple%20has%20long%20meant%20rarity,is%20also%20associated%20with%20femininity.) however I will want mine to use more dark and low key lighting as I want a more darker and emotional tone of the music video as it is a more serious topic than is seen in lots of current music videos. I can do research into finding the TV and footage to find it.
Stand Up - Bilk Lyrics
Trying to find a song that lyrically expressed the political ideas and opinions that I and my target age demographic and target audience share was quite tough, especially finding a song that did not have a music video as this would emphasise the movement and hopefully gain a larger active audience. I love music and have a passion for finding songs with good beat, good lyrics and good meaning. I looked into new upcoming music and artists such as "Regular People" by Moon Walker.
Before the song was released on the 22nd of March, I had looked at the lyrics that had been released and advertised. "The children never talk. We’ve finally shut them up. Always talking over those they only should obey", the use of literary devices like metaphors can emphasise how the artists feel and the points they want to make. I decided not to use this song as I felt like connection between politics was lost it just largely focussed on how the younger age groups views and opinions were not being heard due to the voting age being age 18. I continued looking and decided that Stand Up by Bilk would be a good fit for what I wanted to do with my music video.
Stand Up was the better song choice as it is more relatable to my music video. Comparing the personal connections and the historical & cultural context points from both music choices (Stand Up and Regular People) I was able to make better connections. To start off, I can look at Bilks audience profile to see who's needs they are catering to and how this can effect my music video.

Bilk is composed of 3 members: Sol Abrahams on lead vocals and lead guitar, Luke Hare on bass and Harry Gray on drums. They're from Chelmsford which already gives a better personal connection as my music video will centre around British/UK politics and Moon Walker are from New York so their political views will be more USA based. Looking at their lyrics throughout their songs, its not difficult to see that the band feel strongly about how the government run the country seen here:

I have seen Bilk live twice and they often take opportunity's to share their opinions to the crowd. At the London show I went to, before playing Stand Up they wanted a photo of the crowd doing the middle finger as this is an offensive gesture and they said "fuck the Tory's". These are my photos and videos of this moment.
In this article by Lowder than war they discuss this moment. Bilk: Omeara, London (louderthanwar.com)

After establishing the meaning and opinions shared with the song I decided to looks and the lyrics to understand what the song is actually talking about and referring to.

After looking at the lyrics in detail I could begin establishing a storyboard/shot list for my music video.
Acknowledgment from Bilk
A fun mention - After deciding that I was going to use Stand Up, one night I had seen that the band had gone on Instagram live stream. I took this as my opportunity to tell the band my plans. The lead singer Sol saw my comment, read it out and responded. This is the video of that interaction.

Primary Research: Interview Questions
Following on from my survey, I wanted to gain more in depth knowledge and a further look into how the general opinions of the conservative party can vary between age. To look further into this, I sent an email to the local MP for Cambridgeshire. This is conservative MP Anthony Browne. I asked questions that I expanded from my survey results and referred back to this in my email.

I was aware that there may be questions that Anthony will not be able to answer however was unsure what these might be. I'm still awaiting a response but anything would be helpful.
After emailing Anthony Brown, I went about finding 2 people to represent complete different age groups to see if they shared the same opinion. These interviewees were:
.png)
Andy Arnold (57)
Georgia Mitham (16)
.png)
I asked my interviewees the same questions to gauge fair response and gather a wider range of information.
The results on each side were rather similar. The first three questions were more to let the audience understand who they are and what demographic they represent. The fourth question, "Do you know who the prime minister was the year you were born" can be used to gain a look into how the government was ran at these times and just how much this differs for these two different generations. By asking who the first prime minister you can remember is also to do with age and opinion. I asked this question as I was born when Tony Blair was prime minister but as mentioned the first prime minister I can remember is also David Cameron. Again by looking at the first prime minister and the first political event my interviewees can remember is to look at the influence these had on my age demographic. Andy being able to remember Margret Thatcher's election could infer how influential it was, same with Georgia remembering Brexit. These answers all obviously vary due to age. The next questions are all more opinion based. Looking into if and how the ideology of the conservative party has changed over the years, my two interviewees both agreed that it favours the rich and older people. Both ages also agreed that the conservative government are not fair to everybody living in the country, Andy emphasised his point that they favour the rich and Georgia discussed their favouritism of the older and upper class. In the next question I used a statistic that I gained from my survey. The question was "According to a survey I took, 76.2% of people said that the government do not listen to the young people of todays opinions, what do you think about this?", both Georgia and Andy agreed with this statistic and explained their feelings on it. Next I asked if lowering the voting age would be a good idea. The responses to this was interesting as both interviewees had previously said that the government do not listen to opinions of young people, they said that the voting age should not be lowered. Whilst I do understand for the reasons they gave me - they both said that there is a lack of knowledge in younger people which could result in poor decisions being made, I was surprised as this would be the main way to get the government to listen. And finally, were my interviewees feeling let down by the government? Georgia said that she personally hadn't felt like they had however Andy said that he felt as though the whole country felt let down. This could show the age difference as Andy is older and will have a clearer idea oh how the country should be ran due to seeing past successful prime ministers and governments.
Academic research
Academic research can be done by researching information that has been published and carried out by someone with a degree. There are a number of way we can find this research, for example we could look at books that have been written by someone with a degree in the related area or use a website to find it. I used Google Scholar to find related research already carried out.
I searched for a range of different things related to my music video for example "UK politics age divide", "conservative favouritism" and "lowering the UK voting age". There was a mix of what gave me the best results as some were not specific enough to the research I needed.

This is a screen shot of me researching and looking at the different results.
I looked at a number of articles like this one which put forward facts and statistics and had a good study plan however I was not able to look at the whole thing as they made you purchase it to read the whole thing so I moved on to find something else.
This article did the same so continued on looking. The next article I found I was able to fully read and was really in depth with information and statistics.
The only thing about this article that is not the best for my own research is that fact that it more focussed on US politics not UK but it does discuss the differences and inequalities faced in politics.
Researching comments made by the Government connected to themes shown in my Music video
Over the years the conservative party have made many comments, laws, policies and taken many actions that people have disliked. I will be looking into the time line of the downfall of the conservatives and what they have done over the years to loose respect and voters.
Fairly recently Rishi Sunak has made transphobic comments towards Brianna Ghey, transgender teenager who was brutally murdered, however this is not the only comments he has made.
Whilst my music video will not be on the topic of transphobia, there are ways in which I can connect these comments to my music video.
My music video largely discusses how there is a age divide in politics - how the conservative government favour the rich and specifically favour the older generation as I believe that they are most likely to gain votes from them. This links to the prime ministers comments as I believe that in conversations with older/elderly people many make the same comment of "well nobody was transgender back in my day" when really it was just that nowadays times and laws have changed giving people the support to transition. This is explained here on Good Moring Britain (via TikTok) in conversation with an 80 year old trans woman. This shows a divide in age due to time and progression.
The next thing I want to research and look into is the plans to make students aged 16-18 continue to study mathematics. Maths is famously known as a "tricky subject" for many - myself included. But why have the government done this? The department of education say this is why "This will give young people better maths knowledge to make sure they’re equipped with the skills they need for the future and to support them in their careers, including those in the creative industries." Rishi Sunak discussed it this way.
Whilst I do understand the reasoning for this, I think that this is what the government want but not what young people want. I really struggled with maths and could not wait to stop taking it . Again I understand that this mindset is why the government and education department have made this decision but I feel as though they should have done more research into what this decision will mean to people aged 16-19. I created a poll for a focus group to look into their feelings towards the subject of maths. My focus group consisted of 15 people all aged 16-18 as this decision effects them.
.png)
The results showed that 27% said that they liked maths and 73% said that they did not like maths. This is only a small percentage where as this is a very large amount of people we are talking about.
This shows a age divide as majority of people do not like maths and do not want to do it yet the government are pushing for it. They do not have to do it, we do.
The last thing I want to research is why the government will not lower the voting age to 16. This is a very mixed opinion from many people of all ages.

During my interviews, I asked the question of "would lowering the voting age be a good idea". The results of both sides was no. They both came to this conclusion due to lack of knowledge and understanding this may not be the best thing. I believe that part of the reason the government will not decrease the voting age is due to the lack of young voters (a point made by my interviewee Andy) and also the fact that the older generation vote more for conservative and the younger generation tend to vote labour. These results can be seen in a study by British Election Study.

These graphs show what percentage of different age category's voted overall, for the conservatives and the labour party. This emphasises the age divide I am trying to represent in my music video.
Music in politics
There are a range of songs and musicians that you can't help but think of something it has been used in. We can also relate this to politics. Certain songs have been used in and around politics which may make someone think of why when they hear the song.
The first example of this is Dancing Queen - Abba. This was played at a conservative conference in October 2018 when then prime minister Teresa May walked out onto the stage.
Whilst yes majority of people think about the stage show and film "Mamma Mia!" first, I would argue that this would be something a large group of people would think of next. This could be related to how the nation usually see the Prime Ministers in a more formal manner OR doing some strange things (as seen by Boris Johnson on many occasions). Music can be used to add a sense of normality to their image - that the Prime minister is just like everyone else in the country and is able to have a joke and dance around.
The next song connected to politics would be Thing's Can Only Get Better - DReam. This was used for Tony Blair (Labours) campaign.
The campaign follows people on their way to vote and are seen supporting red or blue colour's (Labour and Conservative) until at the end Tony Blair votes. As this was the 1997 election, it is slightly older and may not be known by a large amount of young people however for the older generation this would be something that may be greatly influential. I personally think this is a great way of using music as this is now the first thought that come to mind when most people hear this song.
Media Theory's
Media theory's can support the success of how my music video will do and how it can effect my audience. There are a range of different theory but some are specifically used in music videos. So far I touched briefly on these theories but I will be looking further into how they can be used.
Music Video Theory
Andrew Goodwin is an Australian music theorist, looking at music videos in particular. He looks and the codes and conventions and how they influence the audience. Andrew Goodwins music video theory has 6 main features. These are: how music videos demonstrate genre characteristics, the relationship between the song lyrics and the music video visuals, the relationship between the music and the video visuals, the need and demands of the record label - could use certain shots to emphasise image or emotion, refering to the notion of "looking" - often paired with objectification of women and finally intertextual referencing to media such as film & TV shows.
How music videos demonstrate genre characteristics:
We can look into genre characteristics by comparing conventions. For instance, looking at stereotypes, a number of 90s boy bands and girl groups use dance routines.
These are performative music videos as it shows them lip syncing and dancing. We could also look at how rock music videos often show the band continuously performing/playing the song.
This can be compared to narrative music videos which use a different set of genre characteristics. Narrative music videos typically follow a story and don't have the artist performing the song.
The relationship between the song lyrics and the music video visuals:
This is where the lyrics of the song sync up with the visuals. This is commonly used by having the actors/performer do exactly what the lyrics are saying. For example, in Watch me - Silento, the video does exactly as the lyrics say.
The relationship between the music (beat, tempo, instruments) and the visuals:
These music videos can be used a range of different ways. They can either show cuts to the footage on the beat or use effects and visuals to represent the sound. In the music video for Do I Wanna Know - Arctic Monkeys, the soundwaves have been used for the song - pairing them with the visuals.
The needs and demands of the record label - could use certain shots to emphasise image or emotion:
The reasons for using this technique can vary depending on the usage. I have chosen Miley Cyrus' music videos from her "Bangerz" album. This was when she was breaking out of the Hannah Montana era and she went into more of a "grown up - party girl era" to emphasise how she was moving on. We can't stop is all about partying - completely rebranding the idea of the Miley Cyrus everyone had previously known. I think that this gave many mixed responses as many people still saw her as "Hannah Montana" yet she was getting older and no longer fit that character portrayal anymore so her record label began to set her up for future work.
Referring to "looking" - often paired with objectification of women:
Usually connected to the male gaze - how men see women and the objectification comonly seen in certain genre of music videos. For instance, in rap music videos one of the commonly seen conventions is women. This can be connected to how the lyrics and visuals are paired together. In the music video for Big Poppa - The Notorious B.I.G. there are women dancing around and sitting in a hot tub.
Intertextual referencing to media such as film & TV shows:
This is commonly seen in videos for songs that have been made for a film as it is a form of promo. This has been used for a large range of songs. Usually it is a normal music video and then it has shots from the movie it is used in to advertise it. When researching intertextual references in music videos a range of songs made for kids films which follow these conventions came to mind.
In my music videos I will experiment with these different music video theory's. I will specifically look into genre conventions, looking into the relationship between the lyrics and the visuals and the relationship between the music and the visuals.
Location
Location is one make or break features of my music video. location is related to mise en scene as it is directly seen by the audience and can infer to certain messages.
I had thought about setting my music video in a playground/play area to refer to the politicians being "childish" however in a discussion with my dad, who is on the village parish council, he explained that I may need permission from the council and from any surrounding residents. He said that there was a high likely hood that when they learnt it was about politics and criticism off the current conservative government they may say no to filming there. These were my two filming location ideas.

Elbourn Way Park

After deciding that these may not be ideal I carried on thinking . Based on the fact my music video was going to be of a "stand off"/fight I wanted it in a big open area and could connect this to government needing to widen their views and opinions. I began thinking about fields/greens around the local area that are completely open to the public (public footpaths) and that are accessible for me and all my cast to get to. Luckily there are a range of fields around my house which means my crew and cast do not need to travel far to get to, do not need to carry equipment a far way and my house can be used as a base for costume changes and if anyone needs to use the toilet or facility's. There are two open fields I am thinking. Both are also ideal as my grandad used to own and work on them so it will not be an issue to use them (especially as they is on a public footpath)

Cast
Casting is another big thing to focus on as these are the people that will actually be performing my music video and the effect on the audience could heavily be influenced by them. For my music video I need around 10 people to play both age groups, this is to show that we are all the same.
I put out a poll on my snapchat story asking who would mind being in my music video and other than 4 people saying they wouldn't be able to (due to living to far away) , everyone else said they would be happy to help.
.png)
I did need a main male lead in my music video to portray a politician/prime minister. This is going to be my best friend Josh . Josh has a good political understanding and has strong political opinions. He will be a good fit for this role as he feels passionately about the subject as well as having the same views and opinions as me.

My general cast will all be the same age as myself and Josh and all share similar opinions.
Costume and make up
As I have both a protagonist and antagonist side to my cast I will need two set of costumes. The antagonist side is more complex than the protagonist.
The protagonist side of my casting and characters are representing the younger age group can dress in any clothes they feel represents modern trends or young people as a whole. I think that fashion trends are highly influential to this. Trends in fashion at the moment can be anything along these lines.

The "younger" generation characters can virtually wear whatever they like as long as I believe the audience can understand the difference between the ages.
Moving onto the older generation side, this is where I will need to think more about costuming. I want my main politician character portrait by Josh to be wearing a suit, I have checked this is okay with him and he said yes. The rest of the cast I would like to be wearing clothes that stand out to a certain past time era. For instance, cardigans, printed shirts, trousers, floral print and pearls. I can find clothes like this for cheaper prices on pre loved sights such as Vinted, Ebay or Depop. This is what sort of clothes I will need.

Other than using clothes I could also use wigs, and make up to show the age difference. I would go towards using short white wigs and pale make up. I can purchase these online.

Equipment
Finally, equipment is something I will need to consider. No only how easy it is to use these equipment items but also how the end result will turn out like.
Previously in my coursework I have used a range of different equipment and have experimented with the outcome that gives to my final project. On a project to project basis I use a camera, a tripod and a zoom mic however I need consider if these are the best options.
Here are 2 examples of filming on different devices.
This was filmed on a camera and tripod. When we filmed this we used natural lighting. I think that the quality is better using the camera. I will use a camera for my music video.
This was filmed on a mobile phone and I think its more grainy that the camera and also it is easier to change setings on the camera than on a mobile.
I do not need to use a microphone for my music video as the song will cover it all.
Planning Filming
As I am filming outside I will need to check the weather to make sure that I have planned around decent weather.

The weather looks better on Saturday than on Sunday. It is sunny and has a lower chance of rain which means I should take this opportunity to film.
